JANEK SCHAEFER - installation
In The Last Hour.
“Prepared and performed in the Huddersfield Town Hall using its giant organ as the source recordings for a site specific, light and audio concert using location recordings, organ and wind instrument manipulations. Based on a sentence from the novel 'The Bridge' which I was reading a few years ago. I got a few chapters in and read the following sentence; 'Between the two, half submerged by each, the ruined city'. I stopped reading at that moment as I loved the sentence so much and wanted to make a new piece of work with each section becoming a track title. A few years later 'In The Last Hour' was born. So I can start to read again soon! It is performed late night in a blackout hall with the audience lying on cushions on the floor immersed in in an installation style set of speakers in front of, behind and above them. Sound reactive glitter stars light up the wonderful gilded ceiling.”

"Wet" (world premiere)
"Set against the backdrop of a great American river during a torrential flood, this provocative new opera by Anne LeBaron and Terese Svoboda sketches out a world in which multinational corporations have cornered all supplies of water. Brimming with heartbreak as much as comedy, "Wet" features 10 vocalists who portray a cast of characters that includes, among others, pregnant teenage twins, a pair of lumberjacks and Death. LeBaron is a winner of the Alpert Award in the Arts, while Svoboda has been hailed for work such as the collection "Trailer Girl and Other Stories"."

OCTOBER 11 - NOVEMBER 26
KEVIN CENTANNI - installation
“Sneaking into frequencies usually accessible only by police radios and emergency pagers, this piece uses a computer script to convert the data to ASCII and the messages are presented in real time on a scrolling LED display like so many stock quotes.”
ATSUSHI NISHIJIMA - installation (recordings at the end of a kite sent out of sight and reeled back in)
DOUGLAS REPETTO - installation
Slowscan Soundwave (III).
“An immense, sound-sensitive sculpture by artist and dorkbot instigator Douglas Repetto. Consisting of enormous strips of transparent mylar strewn from the ceiling, wtih motors, string, and custom electronics, the piece breathes in sympathy with the ambient sounds in the gallery, rippling and reflecting light when there is a sound and resting, invisible, when there is silence. Because of the transparency of the mylar strips, the effect is subtle and eerie, a gossamer membrane that functions as acoustic barometer, making visible sonic phenomena that are often heard, but rarely seen.”
HEATHER WAGNER - installation
Attempted -- Not Known.
“Comes out of a longstanding hobby of sending recording devices through the mail, gathering acoustic documentation of their journeys. In this version, the packages are sent to impossible addressees, for example, GOD, or Amelia Earhart and are, hopefully, returned to sender. Inexplicably, the reasons for nondelivery – insufficient address, outside delivery limits – vary from addressee to addressee.”

NUCLEO (Tribryd Pt. II) - photo objects, related sound
“'Nucleo' is part two of a trio of installations (under the umbrella, Tribryd). The work includes photographic evidence. The images were found in mostly industrial and abandoned areas. The images were produced in collaboration with Marc Behrens (Germany), Robin Storey (Rapoon, UK) and Aranos (N. Ireland), three outstanding international sound composers. Shooting images of desolate lots, abandoned spaces and empty places allowed me to discover the alarming beauty in cracks and crevices.”

ROGER MILLER - exhibition
"Beyond BurmA" - works on paper
"I am a collector, an organizer, and a densifier of surfaces. I began this work in May 2001, though the seeds of discontent had been placed inside me years before. Desiring to lose some of my ego, I implemented the automatic technique of frottage (French for rubbing), an invention of Max Ernst' s during the heyday of Surrealism. I sat in my semi-secluded backyard and rubbed my first frottages with a graphite stick. The bricks, the tree bark, the picnic table, the metal chair I was sitting on, the street lamp I'd picked up off the ground years before all yielded images through a textural sense that was barely visible to the eye. Touching became a new form of seeing."
