“11th annual Stockhausen Courses Kürten” - “The 7 concerts launch the Stockhausen Centre for Space Music and include 4-, 8-, 20-track and octophonic works ranging from the historic “Gesang der Juenglinge”, “Kontakte”, and “Hymnen”, to Stockhausen’s most recent electronic work “Cosmic Pulses”. His long-time sound projection assistants will be in charge of the sound projection. This week of concerts will be immediately followed from July 12th – 20th by 9 more public concerts of his instrumental and electronic music, including the German premiere of “Glanz” (for bassoon, viola, clarinet, oboe, trumpet, trombone and tuba) during the 11th annual Stockhausen Courses Kürten. These courses are open to musicians and music lovers of all ages and are held in English. Admission to each concert is 15,- € (10,- € for students) and subscriptions are available: for the 7 concerts of electronic music 80 € (50 € for students); for the 9 concerts of instrumental and electronic music – 3 of which are free admittance because they are participants’ concerts – 70 € (45 € for students). The admission to all concerts is included in the tuition fee for the courses.”

LEE PEMBLETON - “Disembody”
“For this project, we have assembled a crew of approximately thirty people, from San Francisco to Taipei to Tokyo, to create a feature-length film (working title: Disembody) documenting the creation of a single work of contemporary Fine Art. This art work is a theater being installed at Fringe Exhibitions in L.A.’s Chinatown gallery district. The theater is being built to show Disembody. 23E Studios in Conjunction with The Museum of Viral Memory and Fringe Exhibitions Presents Disembody is a site-specific installation, involving architects, web designers, graphic designers, contractors, costume designers, theater staff, a perfumer, and a complete video production center. To accomplish this, The MVM has relocated to Los Angeles; founded a movie studio (23E Studios); is producing a feature length film; is building a theater to show the film (naming rights are available to a committed investor); and is sponsoring a one week run of the film. Disembody will go into production at Fringe Exhibitions on July 8, 2008. The gallery will be open between July 8 and July 12 anytime crew are working to prepare the gallery for the installation and shoot. On July 12, we are hosting an opening reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the film will officially start shooting. The soundtrack composers for Disembody will be performing a live set with their band oRSo that evening at 8 p.m.. July 13 to 19, 7 a.m. to late Fringe will be open while we build the Morgellon theater, lobby and arcade; and shoot, edit and score the film. July 19, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. we will host a red carpet Gala Premiere reception for Disembody, followed by a 9 p.m. Gala Premiere. July 20 to 26 Disembody will show daily at 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.. The last showing on July 26 will be followed by a closing reception. July 27 to August 3, 2008 Fringe will be open to visitors anytime crew are around de-installing. Calling ahead is advised.”

ALEKS KOLKOWSKI and STEPHAN MATHIEU - “Horatio Oratorio” (a concert and sound installation by Recording Angels)
“Horatio Oratorio is an exploration through the history of recorded sound. The earliest recording and plackback technologies and rare mechanical-acoustic string instruments are combined with vintage and state-of-the-art electronics. A magnificent array of acoustic horns and custom-built loudspeakers project sound from historic wax cylinder phonographs, gramophones and stroh violins, layered and transformed by live digital sound processing. The Friday event closes with a party and 78rpm DJing session in the Arena.”

IAN WHITE: “Ibiza - a reading for “The Flicker”
“A real-life true story and the image-less hallucinogens of Tony Conrad’s 1966 film “The Flicker” are presented simultaneously, like parallel lines in a face-off. IBIZA is a question about the real: an assertion of difference or a kind of hopelessness with nonetheless some good energy, a response to a specific place and a specific time, a personal history and imaginary space. Not Ibiza, but the room we’re in.”

SONIC YOUTH - “Sensation Fix” (exhibition)
“Focuses on the multidisciplinary activities of the groundbreaking experimental group Sonic Youth since its formation in 1981. It features the band’s collaborations with visual artists, filmmakers, designers and musicians, as well as a choice of other works selected by the band. Through the multidisciplinary output of Sonic Youth and related works by other artists in the exhibition, an alternative history of contemporary culture is being uncovered in which the division between “high art” and “low art” is being called into question, while issues are explored such as teenage rebellion, adolescent wanderlust, gender, fame, fashion, sexuality, and religion.”

ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG
“The Greenfield Sacks Gallery and Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) are proud to present an exhibition of twelve new original prints by Robert Rauschenberg entitled The Lotus Series. This series was completed on March 23, 2008 shortly before the passing of this major American artist. The Lotus Series harkens back to the 1980’s when Robert Rauschenberg launched a worldwide art crusade called the Rauschenberg Overseas Cultural Interchange or ROCI. The goal of the project was to create an avenue of understanding between people of different countries through artistic and cultural exchange without political intervention. A six-year exhibition tour led him to Mexico, Chile, Venezuela, China, Japan, Cuba, the former Soviet Union, the former East Germany (East Berlin), and Malaysia. In June of 1982 Robert Rauschenberg traveled to Jing Xian, China to work in the ancient Xuan Paper Mill. Rauschenberg photographed the sights and surroundings extensively. In 1985, Rauschenberg returned to Beijing, China to exhibit the ROCI project. This second trip to China gave Rauschenberg an additional opportunity to photograph the country. Bill Goldston, Director and Master Printer of ULAE (Universal Limited Art Editions) accompanied Rauschenberg on this trip. Until recently many of the images from Robert Rauschenberg’s visit to Asia remained unused. These images from China were rediscovered this past year when Bill Goldston asked Rauschenberg if he would be interested in having an exhibition of new prints in a Beijing gallery in 2008. This magnificent suite, The Lotus Series, was Rauschenberg’s response. In February 2008 The Greenfield Sacks Gallery was also honored with the opportunity to exhibit these works. Each pigmented inkjet and photogravure print measures 45 3/4 X 60 3/4 inches. The works are on Somerset Velvet paper that is mounted on metal. The paper has been treated so that there is no plexi or glass covering the work.”
